Introducing 'Trailing Around Asia'

Welcome to Trailing Around Asia! My name is Harriet Gaywood. This is my platform where I share all my updates about trail running and running ultra-marathons. You will find photos, instagram updates, published articles about running and can order my new book "Trailing Around Asia: Mud, Sweat & Bears" which was launched on January 2, 2025 on Amazon.

From the mountains to the sea, exploring Asia through trail-running offers a unique way to see the region. I share my experiences of running ultra-marathons as an average runner who gets to her destination through perseverance.

I have run 4,400k of ITRA races with a total elevation of 215,000m. I am classified by ITRA as Advanced 4. In my age category I am ranked UK no. 4 for 100k (2025) and no. 2 for 100M (2025). I have been Top 10 in 24 races out of 51.

The Chinese philosopher Laozi once said “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” In 2024, Harriet completed 1,850k of official ultramarathon races with a total climbed elevation of 90,000m (over ten times the height of Everest). She decided to write about her journey from the first step to qualification for Ultra-Trail Mont Blanc. In this book she shares stories of her races in Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, and Thailand to provide a glimpse into the challenges and joys, the exhaustion, and rewards of trail-racing.
